Review Summary

The tires provide excellent grip, stability, and handling performance in both dry and wet conditions, allowing riders to push their bikes to the limits. Many report a noticeable improvement in agility and responsiveness compared to previous models. While the tires generally receive positive feedback for their durability, with some users reporting impressive mileage, a few have experienced premature wear or cracking issues with the front tire.

Excellent SPORT touring Tire

I am on my 3rd set on my Kawasaki ZX14. I have run Michelin Road tires since they were called Macadams back in the early 2000s. I have run Pilot Roads 2,3,4 and now the Road 5. That said, I run the 190/55 in the back as opposed to the OEM size of 190/50. I also do not run the "normal" ZX14 tire pressure of 42/42psi. I do a lot of backroads so about half curves and half straight aways. I now run 36/34 alone and when I have a passenger 38/36. I just replaced the last set and they wore completely even. I especially like the solid rubber sides of the Road 5 as they really give me good predicable grip in the corners. My ZX14 is set up with Corbin seat and saddlebags (Beetlebags) and I usually ride with a pillion on board. I wish Michelin made the Road 5 GT version in a 190/55.

Thank you for your review Kirchner! Glad you are enjoying our Road 5 tire.

Poor front tire treadlife

I truly enjoyed the traction and control of the Road 5's, but the front tire tread life was only 5600-miles. The rear looks good for another 2000-miles. I've been running Pilot Roads since the first or second generation and this is the first I've been disappointed.

Not for Kawasaki 1400 Concours

What I tried to order were the GT version but the shop I got the tires from put on the non GT which may have been the reason for a rear tire blowout? Rode several hundred miles 2 up with medium load out and was great in the twisties and cruising. I did have a rear tire blowout on the tread with plenty of tread left. It was a weird place for a blow out I saw no reason for it. I did not feel that I hit anything to cut the tire. I had just made a fast left onto the freeway and within 100 yds of getting on the freeway the rear end got way to loose. I was able to keep it up and pull over and only then did I really notice i did not have the gt pilots. I know. But anyway another pilot 5 went on and now i am warry of riding 2 up any more because of the load ratings. Front tire wear little cupping after some time. I'm sorry i do not know the mileage I'm guessing 4k miles?? Will be working on wearing these out and new gt's here in november when you can ride in arizona and not burst into flames from the heat.they are great in the wet i must say riding in the heaviest rain ive ever seen tires were great wet.

Great Handling, Poor Front Treadlife

Installed a set of PR5's in Fall 2019 at just under 18000 miles. A year later, in a COVID-19 shortened year, at 22000 miles, the front tire tread is nearly gone on both sides of the center. The rear looks great for the mileage. But, the handling is great. A distinct improvement over the PR4.

3000 miles & a little cupping !

I now have 3000+ on new Road 5GT on a 2019 BMW r1250RT. Running 36 front & 42 rear and starting to see a little cupping, But over all happy with tires.

The tire to buy

I bought this front tire. My z900 came with dunlop tires. This is a way better handling tire. Dont feel or wonder in grooves in roads. Very smooth nice tires. Well worth the money

Best Sport touring tire I have ever used!

I have run several of these on my bike and since 5K miles new it's all I run on my motorcycle (2018 Triumph Bonneville T120 with 55K miles). Rear averages around 8000 miles where the front gets closer to 15K miles. Great for economy and reduction in tire changes. So glad to see a better variety of sizes coming to market for this year. Turn in is predictable, grips is phenomenal. I bought the Dunlop Road Smart 3's and they pale in comparison to the Road 5's. Seems the Road 5's don't last as long as the Pilot Road 4's in my opinion which is the only down side I have to report on.

Upgraded my R1250RT from the OEM Road 4s to Road 5s

After putting about 1500 miles on the Road 5s I believe they are a really great tire. Totally unexpectedly I perceived an immediate improvement in ride quality (just smoother over bumps), but the real advantage was that these tires are much more linear on corner lean in. Where the 4s felt like they had a "step" when entering steep lean angles, the 5s are linear all the way down. Wet weather traction in corners is excellent, although my highly subjective notion is that the 4s had better straight line grip during acceleration in the wet. But all in all I love these tires and the only thing I would change is tire life. (surprise) Then again,. there is no free lunch and I will take sticky over longevity any day. If you put these on your RT you will not be sorry.
