Tire speed index and load index

‎The speed rating on your replacement tire must meet or exceed the maximum speed your motorcycle can reach. Fitting a tire with a lower speed rating than specified means operating it beyond its design limits. The load index must cover the combined weight of the motorcycle, rider, passenger, and any luggage at the maximum loaded condition. Both specifications are in your owner's manual; confirm both before selecting any replacement tire.

The speed rating code indicates the maximum speed at which a tire can carry the load indicated by its load index under the conditions of use specified by the manufacturer.

Fitting a tire with insufficient load capacity reduces its safe operating margin under full load.

The tire is being operated beyond its design limits. At sustained high speeds, heat builds in the tire faster than the rating allows for. Carrying a heavier load — two riders, luggage, additional equipment — compresses the tire more with each rotation and requires higher inflation pressure to maintain the correct operating profile. Riding with a heavy load on solo pressure causes underinflation with the load applied.
