MotoGP™ Season review: nine different winners from 18 races, a new MotoGP™ record

Making its return to the grid after a seven-year absence, Michelin partnered four different manufacturers–Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki and Ducati–to the top step of a MotoGP podium this year. In addition, satellite teams Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS (Miller) and LCR Honda (Crutchlow) sped to their breakthrough triumphs at the pinnacle of international motorcycle racing, while Ducati found itself spraying victory champagne for the first time since 2010.

With three races still to run, Marc Márquez was crowned world champion for the third time in the premier class after celebrating his maiden success at Motegi in Japan – quite literally in his employer Honda’s backyard. The Spaniard’s final tally of five victories topped that of any of his rivals and rewarded an intelligent season, as a mature approach saw him avoid any major injuries and settle for strong points-scoring finishes on days when he wasn’t able to win.
