Great Traction, poor Fuel milage

Comments about Pilot Sport A/S Plus:

I have these tires on a 2010 Ford Fusion Sport AWD. They have excellent traction in both rain and dry condition. I have about 5000 miles on them now with no show of wear. 90% of my driving is highway. The only complaint is that I have lost about 1-1.5 mpg from my Goodyear RSA's, I attribute this to having much more aggressive tread. I will sacrifice mpg's for great traction, just wish I could have both.

Purchased a set of these (205/45ZR17/XL 88 Y) Pilot R/S plus for my Mini Cooper S Coupe. Took off a set of Yokohama's that would hydroplane on a cloudy day. These Michelins are excellent in the rain (drove from Knoxville to Nashville in a monsoon at "slightly over the posted speed" without a single glitch). Very quite and excellent cornering traction. Highly recommend these to my Mini Cooper friends.

                    Poor wear, chunking, flaying/peeling

Comments about Pilot Sport A/S Plus:

In 2010, I purchased Michelin's for my 2008 Lexus IS250 because of Michelin's long-standing reputation for quality and performance and my own past great experiences with the brand. Unfortunately, after only 18,600 miles, my tires are nearly worn out and the fronts show an alarming amount of chunking, flaying/peeling, and uneven wear across the tire. Also, I learned recently that new Pilot Sports are only warrantied for half of the guaranteed treadwear for vehicles with different sized tires on front and back. Current product literature may state this, but my warranty book does not - only the guaranteed 45,000 miles warrantied treadwear is stated. I feel really stung - almost $1100 for tires and now I have to replace them after less than 20,000 miles. Ouch. Every tire store I talk to says Michelin's are the best and I'd like to buy them again, but am hard pressed to do so after this experience.

                          • You need to know your vehicle's options to find out the original size of the tires for your vehicle because automobile manufacturers often use different wheel and tire sizes for different variations of a specific vehicle.

If you do not know your vehicle's options, check one of these places:

1. The original sales invoice or window sticker when you bought the vehicle.

2. Your vehicle's Owner's Manual, which will sometimes identify your vehicle's options.

3. Look on the vehicle itself. Some vehicles have a decal or lettering that indicates the options located on the side or rear of the vehicle.
                          • Find the exact tire quickly using your tire size. Check your owner's manual or tire sidewall to find the required specifications.

Knowing your tire size can help save time at the tire retailer. It also enables you to make an informed tire purchase.

You can find your vehicle's original equipment tire size in one of the following places:
1. • You can determine your tire type by looking at the tire's designation on the sidewall of your tire. The following describes the differences between the tire type designations:

P-Metric: A uniform designation of tire sizes in metric measurements. A typical P-Metric tire is P205/70R14 93S.

European Metric: This system was a conversion of the numeric system from inches to millimeters. The aspect ratio appears in the size designation in most cases where it is other than 82. A typical European Metric tire is 185/70R14 88S

Light Truck-Metric: This system is used for light truck tires, and it mirrors the P-Metric system used for passenger tires. A typical LT-Metric tire is LT245/75R16 120R.

Light Truck High Flotation: This type is for light truck tires with lower sidewalls and wider treads that yield better traction on surfaces such as sand and soft soil found in watery, off-road situations. A typical tire is 31X10.50R15 LT LRC
