Tire Highlights

Variable thickness sipes provide additional biting edges in low–grip conditions to improve wet and snow traction, but lock together in dry conditions to provide crisp handling and longer treadwear.

Unique biting edges in the grooves grip snow for better acceleration and braking in snowy conditions.

Helio compound with sunflower oil helps to increase traction at low temperatures, while extreme silica technology provides exceptional wet grip.

Asymetric tread pattern and Variable Contact Patch 2.0 design result in strong dry performance combined with long tread life.

i ahve to say i was excited coming from the pilot sport plus a/s to have the sport a/s 3's but man after 2k the sound from there is extremly dissapointing. they handle like they should, ride like they should, have the traction like they should but the sound that comes from them after a few thousand miles is like having a full summer pure sport tire not what i expected from $1,100's worht of tires...i loved my pilort plus a/s they had a hint of noise as well but in compairision i'd take my bald plus's back...

Comments about Pilot Sport A/S 3:

I drive an '09 Civic Si sedan. Getting the A/S 3's: the BEST choice. EVER. I came from performance tires from another brand, but the A/S 3's are worth every last penny over whatever other A/S tire you were thinking of. They are actually better performing than the "performance" tires I had been using.

The A/S 3's are predictable. On corners that were taken too fast, they break traction very progressively. It enables much greater confidence; you can feel the tires say they are about to start sliding and when they do, it's extremely controllable. They handle rain better than I ever thought possible. If it weren't for the noise of the rain on the windshield, it's be difficult to tell you were on wet pavement right away.

The sidewalls are slightly thicker than my previous tires. There is more feedback from the wheels because of this, but I've never found it uncomfortable in a situation that another tire would have been comfortable.

Noise is absent (well, except for some corners in the mountains ... ). Like another reviewer said, if there's noise, it's the car, not the A/S 3's.

I did get them in time for the Atlanta Snow Jam - you know that week where Atlanta embarrassed itself with its inability to drive on snow? Yeah, that one. On my Civic Si (FWD - traction control), I nearly had to work to get it to break traction compared to some other drivers that didn't seem to be able to start moving in the first place. For the Atlanta area, the A/S 3's were more than sufficient to handle the snow.

Wear life has been astonishing at the very least. For what there tires have been through (snow, rain, tons of short, around-town trips, a few weekends in the mountains, and even a couple of nails), I'm amazed they are still so close to how they felt when I first got them.

I haven't noticed a change of fuel economy. Considering how much performance I gained, that's amazing. Usually softer performance tires return worse economy.

If you think additional performance from tires isn't really relevant, here's an analogy. When you switched to HD monitors and had been using HD monitors for a while, what did you think when you suddenly had to go back and use an SD monitor? Was it, "How did we ever use these? It's difficult to get anything done with this low resolution!" That's how it's like with A/S 3's. You don't want to go back because anything else would feel dangerously unsafe in comparison.
