Not the Michelins I am used to!

              Comments about LTX M/S2:

I have run Michelin LTX tires on my Chevy trucks for 20 years. Amazing tires! I sell earth moving machinery and every contractor I sell machinery to runs trucks similar to my own. I have convinced many of them over the years to switch to Michelin as I was getting 100,000 miles regularly out of a set. Then I got a set that got half the mileage. The only difference I could point to were the raised white letters had MICHELIN top and bottom as opposed to MICHELIN on one side and LTX on the other. I replaced them with the latter and went right back to over 100,000 miles. This time they changed them to double MICHELIN in the RWL model only, so I just bought the most expensive version and now I am back to 54,000 miles and they very badly need replaced. Same truck now for 10 years! 2005 Chevy Avalanche. Not a clue what to do now. The tire listed on the Michelin site with a 10 wear rating is the same tire I have on the truck now. Called to try and discuss my experience but always get a girl that is book trained but no real life customer/dealer experience. What has changed? How can there be such a huge disparity in mileage?

Didn't go the distance - disappointed

                    Comments about LTX M/S2:

I owned two sets of Michelin LTX MS tires and was very pleased with them. They were quiet, had very good traction in ice, snow, and rain, and they lasted a very long time. One set went 100,000 miles. When it came time for new tires, I thought I'd be getting the newest, latest, and greatest version of this tire with the LTX MS2. They indeed were very quiet, had very good traction in ice, snow, and rain, but I was very disappointed with their wear life.

The tires are rated for 70,000 miles. To me, when you market a tire as an "all season radial" and rate it for 70,000 miles, I think a driver should be able to safely drive on that tire for approximately 70,000 miles in all seasons. Unfortunately, my LTX MS2s were down to 3/32 of an inch at 53,000 miles. I do no off-roading, trailering, heavy hauling, etc. They were rotated regularly and my alignment was fine. I complained to my tire dealer (a major dealer in our area who I've always trusted) but they said there isn't anything they could do. It's Michelin's decision whether or not to warranty the tire and Michelin would not do anything for me until the tires hit 2/32 of an inch. I live in the suburbs of Buffalo, NY and there's no way I could continue driving on them with winter upon us. Michelin apparently thought that 1/32 of an inch would get me to 70,000 miles.

I purchased a new set of four tires from my preferred dealer, but I didn't go with Michelin. I think Michelin makes the best tires but they lost me as a customer over 1/32 of an inch.

You can't buy a better SUV/Truck tire out there. Hey these may cost a little bit more but they are worth it. Top quality, great traction, smooth ride & excellent handling. I put these on my F150 FX2 and pull an 8000# boat and nothing comes close at the boat ramp. Super tread wear rating too. Don't settle for cheap tires...Go with Michelin!
