              Comments about Pilot Sport 3:

ABSOLUTELY THE WORST TIRES I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED!
I purchased a Ford Focus Titanium that included a "handling package". Imagine that, a performance package with special "summer only tires" on a Ford Focus with a 4 cylinder engine to operate in Pennsylvania! Why two reputable companies (Ford and Michelin) teamed up to put these tires on cars that experience adverse weather is beyond me.
Problem #1 - I purchased the vehicle in September and the first snow occurred in December. With "like new" tread the car was inoperative in < one inch of snow! My wife was stranded on the side of a major road because my great "summer only" tires had zero traction. My wife had to get my 8th grade son to push the car and luckily was able to gain enough traction to proceed. This has happened during numerous snow events. It got to a point my wife would not drive the car when snow was forecasted.
Problem #2 – These tires also pick up road pebbles/stones more than any tire I have ever experienced. We live in a suburban area, no country roads and this car clinks and clatters with each stone picked up by the tires, slinging them onto the under carriage! I can only imagine the sand blast effect that has occurred as a result of pebble/stone damage. Problem #3 – The tires are extremely loud! The tires roar when driving down the road at normal speeds. Very uncomfortable! Can't wait to get rid of them!
Problem #4 - Horrible Tread Wear! We only got 22K miles on these tires. After phoning Michelin about the poor tread wear and other complaints (snow capability/pebble pick up), I'm told that the mileage I received exceeded the warranty! What? How? I have a 2010 Fusion with Michelin tires currently at 55K miles and still going strong! I am a long time Michelin customer and I'm completely disgusted in all aspects of this tire. Never again!

Ford and Michelin - Summer Only Tires

                    Comments about Pilot Sport 3:

I purchased a 2013 Focus in Sept. Unbeknownst to me, the Titanium model included a "handling package" which included high performance "summer only tires". I tried to get resolution with Michelin and the Dealership, because I did not get full disclosure about these tires. That's another story. My fear was, cold/snowy weather affecting my ability to drive. Well, on Feb 12th, I was stranded on the side of a major highway because my great summer only tires had 0 traction. Even after turning off the traction control, I did nothing but spin. 2 days later, I still had to get a tow truck to move the car, no more than 6-8 feet, off the shoulder onto pavement. I STILL could not drive the car, due to the tires lack of tread or whatever makes these tires impossible to grip the road surface, in even the minutest amount of snow. Why Ford and Michelin have teamed up to put these tires on cars that will face winter precipitation is beyond me.

                          Comments about Pilot Sport 3:

These Pilot Sport 3's were OEM on my '12 Honda Civic Si. I average 1500 miles a month: 1000 highway miles, 350 city and 150 recreational, which can be pretty aggressive. The performance of the tires in normal conditions was great, better than needed for that car. I did the Tail of the Dragon in the rain with 8000 miles on these tires and had complete confidence in them.
The tires were relatively quiet on most roads, until I got to about 28k miles (5/32 tread) and I started hearing just a little roar. About that mileage I also started noticing some hydroplaning in rain.
At 30,000 miles (4/32 tread) I got caught in a snow/ice storm. These tires made my car useless. Could not get any traction. I understood this to be the nature of summer tires, so it wasn't unexpected. We rarely get snow here in Durham, so I hadn't bothered to replaced them.
Even though I had another 3 to 4 thousand miles left on them, I replaced these tires with the Sport AS 3. I just have to have better traction in bad weather.
I did keep the tires in case I ever get that track day I promised myself.
