Fast wear and early sidewall cracking

Comments about Pilot Sport A/S Plus:

The tires wore quickly after 15,000 miles. Sidewalls cracked too.
I had them replaced with AS3 and was credited a fair amount. But, I had to pay all the other fees, road hazard, balancing etc. again which lowered the overall savings.

These tires melted around the edges. Checked the alignment and made sure the air pressure was right, but still only got 8,000 miles on them before they had to be replaced. Michelin should recall these, I've lost faith in them as a manufacturer.

                    Limted Life Expectancy

Comments about Pilot Sport A/S Plus:

the first set of Pilot Sport A/s plus tires lasted 17K. I had to argue with the tire center to give warranty credit. Tires were rotated properly, but they wore fast, and with excess edge wear. I was even given excuses that edge wear was due to car being out of alignment (guess work offered up by the tire center). So, I dropped everything, went to my certified mechanic, paid the extra $ to prove to the tire center my car was NOT out of alignment (because I knew it was not, though they were not taking my word for it).

Finally, after taking this up with Michelin and then the regional office of the tire center, they gave me 50% credit towards a replacement set. Within 1800 miles the new set was already at 10% wear of life expectancy at 7/32's. I also took note the pressure was at 32. Despite my demanding the tire center to set inflation pressure as per door spec of 35 psi, they routinely would set them lower, at 32. low pressure causes premature wear and contributes to excessive edge wear as well, which were problems with the initial set.

I had gone in with intent to purchase a set of MXV4's (which I had run on my saab for years, with reasonable tire life expectation). The Pilot Sports A/S plus seems to just melt away by comparison. The replacement set went on the car and was inflated to the proper 35 psi. But, every rotation and air pressure check with the tire center had me demanding to make sure they set pressure per door specs. I would personally check as I left the place, routinely, 90% of the time they were under-inflated at 32, even after my requesting them to set them at 35. We check the pressure almost weekly, keeping tabs on the tires inflation. This latest rotation, the tires measure at 3/32, and I was informed by the tire center they cannot rotate the tires, as they need replacing. Once again, they are at 17,000 miles of wear. Reading accounts in reviews that these tires were discontinued makes me wonder why.

Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda… my little inner-voice tells me I should have held out and opted for the MXV4's, which needed to be special ordered. The tire center had these in stock, and I was told these were equivalent performance tires to the MXV4's. While they handle and ride nice when new, their wear is horrible. So, once again I am having to fight for warranty replacement, and can't bring myself to put another set of Pilot Sport A/s on the car.

My, problem, as a consumer, is that I am already paying an initial amount $$ retail price for set of 4 tires that should last (one would hope) to 35K-40K miles. But, at 17K I am forced to pay another substantial $$ amount under pro-ration warranty towards a set of replacement tires. That is now 1.5x what the tires initially costs, and far too much for tires that 'may' or 'may not' make it to 35,000 miles, under a 45K warranty.
