Tire Highlights

A combination of 4 key features improves MICHELIN® X-Ice® Xi3™ overall winter performance even in some of the harshest winter conditions.

Increased number of tread blocks provides 15% more biting edge and improves performance on ice and in snow.

Micropumps absorb water from the surface and evacuate it by centrifugal force for improved tread contact with the road surface.

Cross Z Sipes™. Sipes are tridimensional to improve rigidity , enable stable handling and improve traction on ice and in snow.

The Flex-Ice™ compound. This full-silica compound maintains flexibility at lower temperatures, improving performance on ice and in snow. It also maintains firmness at moderate temperatures, improving wear and grip.

              Comments about X-Ice Xi3:

I drive a 2015 Subaru Legacy 3.6R and am comparing these to winter tires I driven on other Subarus. In the past 15 years, I have used the following winter tires, in order: Hakka Q on an Outback, Observe Garitt KX on a WRX, Hakka 7 without studs on a Forester and Hakka R2 on a Forester. I have had the Michelins on for several weeks and have driven in various conditions including: Dry and warm (40 F), dry and cold (-15 F), Freezing rain where walking conditions were treacherous, Rain, light powder (2 inches), moderate powder (4 inches), greasy conditions like Crisco and slushy conditions. I am very pleased with this tire compared to the other "hardcore" winter tires I've used in the past. These are much nicer to drive in dry conditions, with the handling and feel of an all season tire. As other reviewers noted, when they slip they do so gracefully, with easy recovery. They can inspire over confidence, which is where I have encountered moderate slipping. I have a 90 mile round-trip commute to work where I drive from an hour inland to the coast and back. I routinely encounter changeable conditions due to the transition from the snowier inland to icier coast. These tires are about perfect for what I deal with. We get inclement weather about three to five times per month, with the most frequency in February. If I were driving in deep snow every other day, I probably would go back to Nokians. But I am very happy with the Michelins. I am not sure what caused the handful of negative reviews on these tires. Maybe a combination of vehicle dynamics and aggressive driving? I do drive cautiously in bad weather, and expect if you push these tires hard it could get scary. If you do not drive like an idiot, you should be quite happy as well. These are far superior to any all season I've driven in the winter, and match up quite nicely with the Hakkapellita. Very moderate impact on gas mileage (1 to 2 mpg). I would not hesitate to buy these again, despite the high initial cost. I am hoping they will last as long as their mileage rating implies. I intend to put a set of these on my wife's RAV4 next winter.

SO far, they have proven to work very well in the icy and slippery roads. I bought them for peace of mind, and they seem to deliver just that!

Bought these tires for a 2015 Subaru Legacy 3.6R. The stock tires gave decent performance in winter weather, but with a steep performance drop-off at the handling edge. Thinking I could get better performance, I had the Xi3s installed and am pleased. Very 'fail-soft' at the edge of the performance envelope, and the grip is much more tenacious. I'm also quite pleased with the ride quality and noise abatement. As I'm not a performance-type driver (occasional bursts of straight-line acceleration is all I really require) it would be tempting to use these tires year-round.
