Michelin's New Defender® Tire Boasts 90,000 Mile Warranty

Low rolling resistance has become the new clarion call from car manufacturers hoping to eke out every last 1/10th of a mile per gallon for EPA ratings, but Michelin's new Defender tire takes a different tack, claiming the highest mileage warranty yet: 90,000 clicks, up to 21,000 more miles than competitors.

Pennies On The Mile: Michelin® Defender® Tires Aim to Save the Fuel, Last 90,000 Miles

Typically, if it’s not super-sticky, high-performance rubber, we’re not all that excited when new tires come out. But Michelin has some interesting ideas in the Defender, and if the tires can truly last up to 90,000 miles in the real world, the company might raise an eyebrow or two.

          Comments about Defender:

Great tires except I can't buy them because blackwalls don't look right on 1990's Classic Lincoln Towncars. Currently I'm riding on inferior tires just so I can have the original OEM look. Come-on Michelin. Crank out some thin-linewhitewall Defenders for us classic Lincoln lovers....!!

                Comments about Defender:

Bought tire because of Michelin quality and warranty. Also because of the mileage rating and the extra gas mileage the tire was advertised to get as I'm in sales and do lots of driving. The driving of the tire was as smooth as anything could be but on my first fill up I had lost 5 mpg. 2nd and 3rd tanks were only 1 mpg better. It never improved. Bumps in the road were harder than a new tire should be but it is quiet on road noise and handles well. Michelin was true to their warranty in fixing my problem.

                      Comments about Defender:

Bought first set of Defender tire at 39,000 they lasted to 88,000. Talked to customer service and was told that the warrenty would be honored. The hoops needed to get the Pro- Rated amount are large. Tires need to be returned to Michelin with Documentation. Then need to be approved. Dealer is approved on this web page.Found this to be unaceptable for dealer so paid full amount and will wait for return.
Tires rotated at every oil change and is documented with dealer paper work.
Like the tires and am willing to wait.
