A combination of 4 key features improves MICHELIN® X-Ice® Xi3™ overall winter performance even in some of the harshest winter conditions.
Increased number of tread blocks provides 15% more biting edge and improves performance on ice and in snow.
Micropumps absorb water from the surface and evacuate it by centrifugal force for improved tread contact with the road surface.
Cross Z Sipes™. Sipes are tridimensional to improve rigidity , enable stable handling and improve traction on ice and in snow.
The Flex-Ice™ compound. This full-silica compound maintains flexibility at lower temperatures, improving performance on ice and in snow. It also maintains firmness at moderate temperatures, improving wear and grip. |

Comments about X-Ice Xi3:
I have a 2010 Chevy HHR with a set of 4, 215-55-16 Ex Ice Si3 tires. Have had them since late November 2012. I drive on twisty, rural back roads a lot, mostly gravel and on dry pavement.
The back roads get a glossy hard pack of snow and ice. These tires let me go 30 to 40 miles per hour where I could only go 25 on the bare gravel with my road tires. Amazing. They don't suddenly loose grip in turns and work very well with the directional stabilization feature on the car. Stopping is good on slippery roads and turning is also very good. These tires are quiet for a winter tire and really smooth out the ride.
The rolling efficiency seems to be very good. On the highway at 65 mph I average 33 mpg. With the summer tires I get about 34 to 36, but it is also warmer out then.
I am very pleases so far, but will have to wait to see how durable they are. I am expecting 30,000 miles of good winter performance. They are expensive tires but seem like a good insurance policy against finding my self in a ditch or being unable to maneuver out of the way of someone who is out of control.

Comments about X-Ice Xi3:
XICE-3 winter tires look less "aggressive" than winter tires from other retailers, but snow and ice traction seem to be very good, consistent with other reviews. Braking on a mixture of snow and ice took a longer distance than with our other car. No experience yet on slush or rain.

Comments about X-Ice Xi3:
Mounted on tdi Jetta wagon, they work fine on my commute to work. A quiet tire better than other winter tires I've had. Not alot of snow yet but worked well in the 2"+ we had and also on the packed and icy gravel roads I've driven.
Seem to handle as good as the summer tires I took off.
