Melted around edges after road trip

Comments about Pilot Sport A/S Plus:

Not too happy with these tires. Mine also melted around the edges after a road trip this past weekend. I'm worried they might explode if I continue driving my car. My air pressure and alignment were perfect before my trip. My dealer thinks it might be a defect in the tires. He hasn't seen anything like it before. I hope Michelin recalls these tires. The center of the tires look new, but edges are completely melted. Less than 2 years old and only have 9000 miles on the tires.
Is there a recall for these tires Michelin?

Defective Tires - Need to be recalled

Comments about Pilot Sport A/S Plus:

I've had these tires on the front of my car for 14,000 miles. The chunking is alarming. The size of the missing pieces is large enough that it increases the risk of a blow-out from small road debris. I am concerned for my safety, but find that Michelin is unwilling to acknowledge what is clearly a safety issue. - Read about these Pilot Sport AS+ tires, there are all sorts of issues about "chunking" - Its okay if something is wrong, but a premium company like Michelin should do the right thing and replace them. Michelin, what are you going to do?

What has happen to Michelin tire quality?

I've always bought Michelin tires but these Pilot Sport AS Plus did not live up to their warrenty by far. I only got 17K miles on them. The middle of the tire looks normal but the edges are shot and melted down to the belts. I drive an Audi Quattro A6 and these do typically test a tire performance but these tires should not be rated anywhere near a 45000 mile warranty. I typically drive interstate to work and always maintain pressure and rotations in my tires.
I've heard these are now discontinued. Should they have been recalled? I'm told the new Pilot AS3s are better. Let's hope so!
